Movie Plot: RMS Poseidon, a luxury ocean liner, is crossing a transit border. Former New York City Mayor and FDNY firefighter Robert Ramsey (Kurt Russell) is soon traveling with his daughter Jennifer (Amy Rosum) and her boyfriend Christian (Mike Vogel) to get engaged. Also on board were professional gambler Dylan Johns (Josh Lucas), architect Richard Nelson (Richard Dreyfus), Maggie James (Jackinda Barrett) and their son Conor (Jimmy Bennett), Stove Elena (Maya Maestro), and waiter Marco Valentin (Freddie Rodriguez).
As passengers are enjoying a New Year’s Eve party, officers on the bridge see a huge wicked wave onboard. To avoid the wave, they try to run the ship to take the wave bow-first, but it does not turn too fast. The wave svemps and caps the ship, killing many passengers and crew, along with bridge officials. In the ballroom, a badly injured Captain Bradford (Andre Bruger) attempts to restore the order and assures the surviving passengers that help is on the way, and tries to persuade them to stay. Incoherent, Dylan, Connor, Maggie, Robert, Richard and Valentine lead the bow, where he believes he will have the best chance to avoid a capside liner.
