A group of young backpackers’ vacation turns sour when a bus accident leaves them marooned in a remote Brazilian rural area that holds an ominous secret. Three young American tourists, Alex, his sister B, and their friend Amy, are backpacking in Brazil. They decide to go by bus and instead of travelling to some parts of the country, go directly to the north-eastern beaches where they want to go. After leaving all the passengers stranded in a bus accident, they are joined by two English men, Finn and Liam, and an Australian woman, Pru, who is fluent in Portuguese. The group searches for a time where many other tourists and locals are partying. After spending the day on the beach, they are given intoxicating drinks and passed out.

The next morning, they wake up on the deserted beach, looting their belongings, money and documents. In search of help in the nearby village, they struggle with the locals as they see some of their belongings being worn or lying nearby. Offering help, Kiko, a local who speaks some English, takes volunteers to an isolated house in the forest where they can wait for a helicopter. On the way home, Kiko shows a group a cave under a waterfall, but, while dive into the water, he causes serious head injuries. Moving into the house, they consume food, clothes, and many medicines, as well as a drawer full of other people’s passports. They manage to heal Kiko’s wounds and reluctantly decide to spend the night.
