Movie Plot: Returning from a business trip to Hong Kong, Beth Amhoff (Gweneth Paltrow) has a takeover in Chicago to meet with an ex-boyfriend before returning to his family in Minneapolis. She appears to have a cold contract during her visit. Clarke, a six-year-old son, is also ill from the previous marriage and is sent home from school. Beth’s condition worsens and after two days she falls with a serious seizure. Her husband, Mitch (Matt Damon), takes her to the hospital, but she dies for an unknown reason. Mitch returns home and finds that Clarke has died of a similar infection. Mitch is kept in isolation, but it appears to be immune to the disease. He is released and returns to his teen daughter, Jori (Ana Jacoby-Herron), although they are unsure if she has inherited her immunity. She decides to stay with her father regardless. Mitch struggled with learning that his wife was unfaithful, and was saving his daughter from infection. Meanwhile, people who had contact with Ehafp begin to spread the disease around the world.
