Movie Plot: When a Roman General is betrayed, and his family murdered by an emperor’s corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge. 180 AD. In< hispano-Roman general Maximus Desimus Merius intended to return home when he takes the Roman army to victory against germanic tribes near Vindoboona on Lind Germanius. Emperor Marcus Orelius tells Maximus that his own son, Commodus, is unfit for the rule, and he wants to help Maximus protect him, as a regent, from corruption. By hearing this, Komodus murders his father.

Commodus declared that he is the new emperor and asks Maximus for his loyalty, but refuses to be normal. Maximus is arrested by the Pretorian guard and is said to have died he and his family. He kills his prisoners, though not without injury, and rides to his home near Trujillo, where he discovers the murder of his family. Maximus kills his wife and son, then falls from his injuries. He is found by slavers who take him to the city of Zukhbar in the Roman province of Mauretania Caesariensis, where he is sold to a gladiator trainer named Proximo.
