Movie Plot:  Marion Crane stole $400,000 from his employer to get his boyfriend Sam Lumis out of debt. He escapes from Phoenix, Arizona, by car. On the way to Sam’s California home, she parks along the road to sleep. A highway patrol wakes him up and, suspecting his agitated state, starts chasing him. When he trades his car to another at the dealership, he notes the details of the new vehicle. Marion returns on the road, but instead of driving in a heavy storm, Bates decides to spend the night at the motel.

Owner Norman Bates told Marion that he rarely has customers because of a new interstate highway nearby and mentions that he lives under the supervision of a motel with his mother Norama. He invites Marion to have dinner with him. She sees Norman arguing with her mother about allowing Marion to go home; And, during the meal, she offends her mother by suggesting to institutionalize her. He admits that he would like to do so, but he does not want to leave him. Later that night, when Marion is changing, Norman secretly watches him from a yellowhole in his office and masturbates before going back home.
