In 1593 in London, William Shakespeare is a time-long player in Lord Chamberlain’s Maine and a poor playwright for The Rose Theatre owner Philip Henslow. Shakespeare is working on a new comedy, Romeo and Ethel, The Proprietary’s daughter. Suffering from the author’s block, he has barely started the drama, and is more distracted by Richard Calabe’s efforts to tamper with The Kardashian Theatre’s owner, Rossline and persuade Bens to buy the drama from Hansello. Shakespeare’s rival playwright Christopher Wray “Kit” Marlow receives useful advice on his play, but when he learns that Rosalyn is sleeping with Edmund Tillney, the powerful master of Rivls. Henslo, who is in the debt of ruthless moneylender Feynman and is in dire need of a new drama, begins the audition anyway.

Viola de Laps, the daughter of a wealthy businessman who has watched Shakespeare’s plays in court, disguises herself to audition for a man named Thomas Kent. “He receives Shakespeare’s interest when he auditions with a speech from two gentlemen of Verona, when a series of actors bore him by reading from Marlo’s Doctor Faustus, but when Shakespeare questions him, Viola escapes for fear of finding out. (a) Shakespeare goes from Kent to Viola’s house and leaves a note with the nurse, Thomas asks Kent to start rehearsals on The Daily. He sneaks into the house with the minors playing with the ball at night, where Viola’s parents are arranging for his confidant Lord Wessex, who is a weak elite. While dancing with Viola, Shakespeare is speechless, but is forcibly fired by Wessex. Wessex has also asked For Will’s name, in which he responds that he is after Christopher Marlow when Wessex threatens to kill him. Shakespeare entered Viola’s garden looking for him on his balcony, where he briefly admits his mutual attraction to each other before being discovered by his nurse.
