Anna (Emily Browning) has been in a psychiatric institution for ten months, her ailing mother died in a both a both house fire after her suicide attempt. When he is discharged, he has no recollection of the incident, but often has related nightmares. While packing, Anna is shocked by an upset, talkative patient from the hall room. Shortly after, she goes with her father, Steven (David Strathern), a writer who has dedicated her latest book to Anna and her sister.

At home, Anna reunited with her sister, Alex (Ariel Kebel), with whom she is very close. The sisters are standing against Steven’s girlfriend Rechal (Elizabeth Bank), who was her mother’s live-in nurse. Alex criticises Steven for sleeping with Rachel, while the girls’ mother was still alive and sick in bed, but she doesn’t respond. Ana tells Alex how scenes of her dreams are beginning to happen while waking up. The sisters are convinced that hallucinations are their mother’s message, stating that she was murdered by Rachael.
