Movie Plot: Four years later, Kipps is instructed, as a last attempt to keep his job, to visit Crythin Gifford to retrieve any relevant documents left by Alice Drablow, the deceased owner of Eel Marsh House, an isolated and desolate estate on the marshland, as a prelude to the sale of the house. Upon arrival, Arthur finds many of the villagers rather unwelcoming, especially at the local inn own by the Fishers. Mr. Fisher refuses to give Arthur room & board, even though it was prearranged by Arthur’s job. Mrs. Fisher convinces her husband to let Arthur stay the night in the attic, the same room where their three daughters died. Local wealthy landowner Samuel Daily (Ciarán Hinds), whom he met on the train ride over, takes pity on him and invites to dinner at his home.
